Rom 9:18
Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.

ἄρα οὖν ὃν θέλει ἐλεεῖ, ὃν δὲ θέλει σκληρύνει.

Rom 9:19
One of you will say to me: ‘Then why does God still blame us? For who is able to resist his will?’
You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For awho can resist his will?”

Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?

hHas the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump ione vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use?
οὐκ ἔχει ἐξουσίαν κεραμεὺς τοῦ πηλοῦ ἐκ τοῦ αὐτοῦ φυράματος ποιῆσαι μὲν εἰς τιμὴν σκεῦος δὲ εἰς ἀτιμίαν;
Rom 9:22
What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath – prepared for destruction?
What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience jvessels of wrath kprepared for destruction,
εἰ δὲ θέλων θεὸς ἐνδείξασθαι τὴν ὀργὴν καὶ γνωρίσαι τὸ δυνατὸν αὐτοῦ ἤνεγκεν ἐν πολλῇ μακροθυμίᾳ σκεύη ὀργῆς κατηρτισμένα εἰς ἀπώλειαν,
Rom 9:23
What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory –
in order to make known lthe riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he mhas prepared beforehand for glory

οὓς καὶ ἐκάλεσεν ἡμᾶς οὐ μόνον ἐξ Ἰουδαίων ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐξ ἐθνῶν;—
Rom 9:25
As he says in Hosea:

‘I will call them “my people” who are not my people;
and I will call her “my loved one” who is not my loved one,’
Hosea 2:23

As indeed he says in Hosea,

r“Those who were not my people I will callmy people,’
and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’”
ὡς καὶ ἐν τῷ Ὡσηὲ λέγει· Καλέσω τὸν οὐ λαόν μου λαόν μου καὶ τὴν οὐκ ἠγαπημένην ἠγαπημένην·
Rom 9:26
and, ‘In the very place where it was said to them,
“You are not my people,”
there they will be called “children of the living God.”’
Hosea 1:10

tAnd in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’
there they will be called usons of the living God.’”
καὶ ἔσται ἐν τῷ τόπῳ οὗ ἐρρέθη

Rom 9:27
Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: ‘Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea,
only the remnant will be saved.
And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: wThough the number of the sons of Israel
Or children of Israel
be as the sand of the sea, yonly a remnant of them will be saved,
Ἠσαΐας δὲ κράζει ὑπὲρ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ· Ἐὰν ἀριθμὸς τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ὡς ἄμμος τῆς θαλάσσης, τὸ

ὑπόλειμμα σωθήσεται·
Rom 9:28
For the Lord will carry out
his sentence on earth with speed and finality.’

Rom 9:29
It is just as Isaiah said previously: ‘Unless the Lord Almighty
had left us descendants,
we would have become like Sodom,
we would have been like Gomorrah.’
Isaiah 1:9

And as Isaiah predicted,

ad, aeIf the Lord of hosts had not left us offspring,
afwe would have been like Sodom
and become like Gomorrah.”
καὶ καθὼς προείρηκεν Ἠσαΐας· Εἰ μὴ κύριος Σαβαὼθ ἐγκατέλιπεν ἡμῖν σπέρμα, ὡς Σόδομα ἂν ἐγενήθημεν καὶ ὡς Γόμορρα ἂν ὡμοιώθημεν.
